Can you be an Optimist if you are a Worrier?

  • Are you the proverbial optimist or pessimist?
  • Are you the glass half empty or the glass half-full?
  • Do you constantly worry about what might happen?
  • Do you find it hard to stop worrying about things that may never happen?

If any of the above apply, then read on! If they don’t read on anyway as your opinion is valued.

I was thinking the other day about the fact that if you are an optimist then theoretically you shouldn’t be a worrier! This is an oxymoron isn’t it?

(An oxymoron being “a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction”).

Like some of you, I am sure you are an optimist, always focusing on the positive and putting out constant positive messages to attract positive things to us – the Law of Attraction.

But, also like some of you, we can’t stop the old ‘worry warts’ bothering us constantly when we move into unknown areas trying something new or doubt ourselves and our abilities.

What I find strange is how can we be an optimist AND a worrier as the two are a contradiction in terms aren’t they?

Surely if we are an optimist we would never need to worry as our positivity is unwavering.

Unfortunately, we are human, and whilst we try to remain positive putting out positive messages into the Universe, we must also be aware that the things we worry about are ALWAYS of a negative nature, and therefore a pessimistic view.

If we worked out how much time we spend on being positive and how much time we spend on worrying, I bet I guess what the highest percentage of the day is spent on!

To combat this, I believe if we say we are an optimist, we should put our money where our mouth is and stomp on those worries and they are not ‘ours to own’ shouldn’t we?

Apart from the fact of course if that most of our worries are unlikely to come true AND didn’t our mothers tell us ‘stop worrying about what may never happen’!

Shouldn’t we stop sending out mixed messages?

What do you say?
