The Bars of Life, would you have a Bar of it?

You’ve likely heard the saying “I wouldn’t have a bar of it?” The origin or meaning apparently stems from USA with bar being short for barrow, i.e. “I wouldn’t take a barrow of him even if they or he was giving it or him away for free”! Or it could be referring to a bar of chocolate i.e. “I wouldn’t want anything to do with him even if it came in a bar of chocolate or he or it was neatly packaged up like a tasty bar of chocolate”.

How about imaging it’s neither of these, but more an acronym – BAR.

Let’s look at what this acronym is and means and how we can integrate BAR into our lives.

B – Believe – We need to believe in ourselves, in what we do, our abilities, our goals, our desires and more importantly our abilities. We can be our worst enemies expecting the worst, focusing on failing rather than achieving; talking ourselves down and letting others talk us out of doing the things we want to.

A – Achieve – We need to believe we can do what we want when we want and how we want. We are in control, in charge, our own boss, no matter what others tell us; we are in charge of our own destiny. We can do anything we want if only we put our minds to it. But we let our minds talk us out of believing and achieving.

R – Result – If we were practical, we could focus on results, positive results, not negative which are often our default. If we imagine we’ve done it, we are there, we have achieved our goal, exceeded our expectations. We need to be there in our minds, see it, feel it, breathe it and be in that moment of success.

To achieve the Bar of Life we must do the following:

  1. Focus on the positive, believing in ourselves at all times, not just some of the time
  2. Imagine we have super powers and can achieve whatever we want, any time anywhere
  3. Keep our eye on the result, where we want to be, how we want to feel and not sway from the feeling of reaching our destination.

Don’t let the bars of life restrain you, instead think them as being the Bar of Life.
