Anchored to the Wharf? Consider a DPS!

Do you know what an anchor’s for?

Do you have an anchor?

How do you know if you have the right anchor?

What is an anchor? “An anchor is a device, normally made of metal, used to connect a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current”. How might we anchor ourselves down, staying in our comfort zone, reluctant to move into unknown waters for fear of being swept away!

Nowadays, instead of anchors, vessels use ‘Dynamic Positioning Systems’. These are operated by twin GPS satellite and operated via twin propellers below the boat which work constantly, helping you hold your position, positioning you accurately without damaging the boat, relieving stress and increasing safety.

Perhaps we could change our thinking, particularly if we feel we’ve anchored ourselves to the wharf, never venturing out to sea for fear of going into un-navigated waters.

If we ‘invested’ in our own personal ‘dynamic position system’, enabling us to go where we wanted, knowing we are safe, reaching our destination, via the best and safest route – think about how much less stressful our lives would be!

How do we determine which anchor we have, decide on another anchor or move to a dynamic positioning system and how or whom might we have to help us do this?

  1. Consider your life to date; are you stuck; do you feel moving forward is like dragging a heavy anchor? How long is it since you left the ‘wharf’?
  2. Find a person who can be your ‘satellite’ and provide you with a GPS system; a coach or mentor who can show you strategies to find the best way to navigate your way through stormy waters
  3. Once you’ve found the right system that suits your business or lifestyle, plan where might be your ideal destination and then choose which are the best routes you can take which are the least stressful, safest, and perhaps the quickest or best for you at that time
  4. Using your coach or mentor to work with you for the first ‘maiden’ voyage to give you confidence and empower you to go it alone in future is a great way to start
