Aspiring to Be Our Best Selves

We all have people we look up to – those who seem to embody the traits we admire most. Maybe it’s their confidence, calm under pressure, kindness, resilience, or the way they lead with purpose. These role models can inspire us to push forward, grow, and keep aiming higher. They remind us of the kind of person we want to be.

But what happens when we feel like we’re falling short?

It’s not uncommon to struggle when we don’t feel aligned with our own values. We might pride ourselves on being dependable but find ourselves overwhelmed and dropping the ball. Or we may aspire to be confident and assertive yet shrink back when it matters most. This disconnect can feel heavy – and over time, it chips away at our sense of self-worth.

The truth is no one gets it right all the time. Even the people we admire have off days, doubts, and missteps. The difference is they keep coming back to what matters. They reflect, realign, and take action. The gap between where we are and who we want to be isn’t fixed – it’s a space we can step into with intention and effort.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about progress and keeping our values in view even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.

Here are 5 tips to bring you back into alignment with your best self:

  1. Name your values – Get clear on what matters most to you and the qualities you admire in others.
  2. Check in often – Reflect regularly: are your actions lining up with your values? If not, what needs to shift?
  3. Show self-compassion – Growth takes time. Don’t beat yourself up for being human.
  4. Celebrate the small wins – Every moment you act in alignment with your values is a win.
  5. Surround yourself with inspiration – Spend time with people who lift you up and remind you of who you’re becoming.

You don’t need to be perfect to be proud – you just need to keep moving forward.
