Managing your mental health and wellbeing personally and professionally when anxiety kicks in

We all struggle with our mental health from time to time, and sometimes when things are a little wobbly, we can become anxious which can affect our work, business and affect us on a personal and daily basis.

Whilst mental health is more open nowadays, some of us still struggle with being open about it and asking for help. Having someone to talk to is important, however, it’s also important for us to have some strategies we can draw upon to help us whilst we are going through these dips.

Below are five tips to help manage your mental health and wellbeing personally and professionally when anxiety kicks in.

Mindfulness Practices: Incorporate mindfulness techniques like deep breathing or meditation to centre yourself and manage anxious thoughts, both in personal and professional settings.

Establish Boundaries: Clearly define boundaries between work and personal life to prevent burnout. Allocate dedicated time for self-care activities and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Effective Time Management: Prioritise tasks, break them into smaller, manageable steps, and focus on one thing at a time. This can reduce the feeling of overwhelm and enhance productivity.

Open Communication: Share your feelings with trusted friends, family, or colleagues. Open communication fosters understanding and support, creating a positive impact on your mental health.

Regular Physical Activity: Engage in regular exercise, as it has proven benefits for mental health. Whether it’s a quick walk, a workout session, or yoga, physical activity can help alleviate anxiety and improve overall wellbeing.

Often at this time of year when the festive season is behind us, it’s good to have things like this brought to our attention so we can manage ourselves better if, as and when we might need to help ourselves in this area.

Remember, if you are struggling, please talk to someone, more people are struggling with similar, same than you might think, and as the old saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved. Getting things off our chest is cathartic.

In summary, focus on the five steps above to manage your mental health and wellbeing as best you can.
