Is public speaking your fear?

Did you know that the fear of public speaking is higher than the fear of death or dying?

This may be a surprise to some, but for others I’m sure you can relate to this.

Public speaking is a great means of communication, and promoting your business, however, if you have a fear of public speaking, then you minimise your chances or opportunities of effectively and successfully ‘selling and promoting’ your services and your business.

Usually those people who fear public speaking avoid it at all costs, however, when you are a business owner, it’s something that’s almost unavoidable. For example, most new business owners, join networking groups to get to know other like-minded people, where there is an expectation of giving a presentation, whether it’s sitting informally round a table, or standing up giving a formal presentation.

Are you prepared? Do you have the skill? Is it something you avoid? Do you feel you have missed the opportunity to promote what you do?

Like any fear, or phobia, tackling it head-on is the only way!

I have arachnophobia, a fear of spiders, which is SO bad even typing the word SPIDER gives me shudders. I have worked on my fear! I travelled round South America, and stayed in the Amazon where I came face to face with the largest arachnids you’ve ever seen! I even held a tarantula, albeit very briefly! Tarantula is another word I can hardly bare to write or read!

If you’re in business and want to promote your services, and have the opportunity at meetings or networking groups, to speak in public, and are avoiding this, think about seeking a speech coach to help you conquer your fear and overcome your phobia.

Contrary to belief, it IS a skill that can be learned, and despite how bad you think you are, you WILL be able to confidently speak in public.

I should know! I was one of those who feared public speaking, and have spoken internationally! It can be done! You can do it!

I have worked with many clients who thought they would never be able to speak in public, not use notes, or be able to MC a meeting, or facilitate a workshop, but they did! SO CAN YOU!
