What Would You Do Today If You Knew You Would Not Fail?

What would you do today if you knew you would not fail?

Wow! Doesn’t that conjure up loads of ideas for us?

Doesn’t it make our minds just zoom into action with all sorts of visions and generate huge creativity.

Why is it then that we fear failure and let that stop us taking chances and being creative and stopping us doing things just because we fear we may not succeed?

Name me one entrepreneur that didn’t fail at least once and hugely in some cases, but just kept trying different ways and never doubting they would get there in the end.

What might we say to children if they say they fear they will fail if they try something new? I bet your answer would be different to what you might tell yourself!

It’s too easy to say what would you do today if you knew you would not fail, but it’s a harder thing to go out there and do it, isn’t it?

But let’s be honest with ourselves. What’s stopping us? Only us. Doubting ourselves. Not believing in ourselves. And yet if we let ‘us’ get in the way, then we will never know if we might have succeeded or not. Do you want to be the person when your old looking back with ‘what if’s’ and regrets?

And what does failure mean anyway? Why is it felt to be such a bad thing or negative word? Doesn’t failure mean that it didn’t work this time but perhaps it needs looking at a different way, and trying something different might mean it or we might or will succeed?

Doesn’t failing or not succeeding with things make us stronger, more creative, try harder, role model great examples to others?

What’s the alternative? Not trying? Being fearful of evening considering trying anything new? That’s not a great way to live or think either is it?

There’s a great book ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ by Susan Jeffers. I’ve read this book so many times and taken learnings from it each time.

One takeaway is that even if we don’t try for fear of failure, we still live with the fear, imagining we are stepping outside our comfort zone and failing, and feeling the fear. So what not feel the fear and do it anyway?

So what are you waiting for?

Go out and try something new, something daring, something you’ve always wanted to do and see how empowering it is. Perhaps go back to your younger days and what you used to do that you gave up. A hobby or interest perhaps. You never know you might enjoy it more than you think. And now just might be the right time. You won’t know if you don’t try will you?
